Early spring in Tokyo means one thing: hanami, or cherry blossom-viewing. Locals and visitors alike can enjoy the pleasantly mild weather while relaxing or strolling around town. Two spots in Tokyo known for cherry blossoms are Kabutocho, with its famed Sakura-dori street, and Nakameguro, where the Meguro River is lined with cherry blossom trees. Take a break from a hanami excursion at these new facilities in Nakameguro and Kabutocho.
Located in a retro-modern neighborhood of Nakameguro, the GARDEN is part restaurant, part café, and part shopping experience. The first floor features a plant shop, wine cellar, and bookstore (as well as a combination trattoria-bar-café), while the basement floor has an Italian-style restaurant.
Food offerings at Ristorante Scintilla and Trattoria in the GARDEN range from Italian-style pasta to meat and fish dishes, with plenty of seasonal offerings available. For something to drink, try the teas, bergamot soda—or maybe sip a glass of wine.
the GARDEN's wine cellar, Hibana Nakameguro, is stocked with natural Italian wines.
Quartetto, the plant shop, has plenty of unique pots and dried flowers that will make for a great memory of your time in Tokyo.
the GARDEN's bookstore Ishi specializes in "unsellable books." The logic behind this? You'll love the books you purchase here so much that you'll never want to part with them. The selection ranges from novels to manga comics to art and photography books.
Kabutocho is home to Sakura-dori, a street lined with cherry blossom trees that connects Tokyo Station and Kayabacho. Opening February 2020 in Kabutocho, K5 is a multi-facility complex that will give new life to a historical building erected in 1923.
On the first floor, visitors can enjoy natural wine and beer at the restaurant Caveman, run by the individual behind Kabi in Meguro. Also located on the first floor is "library bar" Ao, a cozy establishment whose walls are lined with books. A tea salon by day, Ao offers Asian tea and Chinese herbal medicine-themed cocktails by night. Tokyo's third branch of Switch Coffee, a popular coffee shop, also makes its home on the first floor of K5. Caffeine enthusiasts will enjoy the single-origin drip coffee, espresso, and lattes. On the basement floor of K5 is B, New York craft beer company Brooklyn Brewery's flagship taproom.
Floors two through four of K5 play host to Hotel K5 steeped in Swedish design sensibilities thanks to design team CKR. The 20 guest rooms are simple, modern, and elegant.
