Your current location:

東京都心部|東京西部|東京南部

自由が丘|原宿|神田&神保町

Contrary to popular belief, Tokyo’s nightlife is no longer defined solely by alcohol. As the global sober-curious movement gathers momentum, the city is embracing a new generation of bars and cafes where thoughtful drinking takes many forms.

From refined mocktails in intimate hidden bars, to craft beer with minimal alcohol content and stylish bars designed for first-time visitors, there are more ways than ever to enjoy an evening out on your own terms.

Whether you’re cutting back, taking a break, or curious to see what’s out there, these venues are equally welcoming to groups of drinkers and non-drinkers looking to have a good night out.

Refined Mocktails in a Hidden Tokyo Hideaway – Low-Non-Bar

Tucked beneath the railway arches, about a seven-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station, Low-Non-Bar offers a refined take on non-alcoholic drinking that goes beyond classic staples like the Shirley Temple. While traditional liquors and spirits derive their character from the base liquor, non-alcoholic cocktails require a more deliberate layering of ingredients to achieve comparable depth. At Low-Non-Bar, home-made purées and delicate essences are crafted in-house and decorate the bar counter, evoking the sense of a magical mixology class.

The menu, available in both English and Japanese, is structured into three categories – light, medium and heavy – not as a measure of alcohol content, but as a guide to how you enjoy your drink. A lighter drink can quench your thirst and leave you feeling light and refreshed, while heavier options area ideal for sipping and unhurried evenings. Each order is prepared before your eyes, transforming home-made ingredients into photogenic mocktails that capture the glamor of a classic cocktail-bar experience.

The menu changes with the seasons, and visitors may also opt for an omakase-style experience, by sharing your mood or preferred flavor profile with the bartender. For those who wish, a curated range of alcoholic beverages is also available, and many drinks can also be ordered as either non-alcoholic or low-alcohol versions, making the bar a welcoming space for visitors of all preferences.

A modest selection of bar snacks complements the drinks, making Low-Non-Bar an elegant destination for those looking to stay out a little longer after an evening out.

Craft Beer for the Sober Minded – Low Alcoholic Cafe MARUKU

Tucked away just a short walk from Gakugei-Daigaku Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line, Low Alcoholic Cafe MARUKU offers a warm and personal alternative to the conventional bar scene. Guided by the belief that non-alcoholic choices don’t have to be boring, the owners created a space where guests can gather, connect and enjoy the experience of drinking on their own terms.

Neither as loud as a club nor as heavy as a late-night izakaya, MARUKU occupies an inviting middle ground that feels especially welcoming to travellers. With handwritten menu boards, vinyl records on display and a welcoming neighbourhood spirit, the atmosphere is intimate and comfortably home-like.

The drink menu reflects the owners’ tastes, featuring non-alcoholic beers they personally taste and select rather than sponsored labels. Imported non-alcoholic craft beers, wines and sparkling drinks sit alongside domestic selections, but what’s particularly impressive is the selection of low-alcoholic craft beers available. With more than a dozen options spanning from 0.0% to 0.5% alcohol, MARUKU’s lineup offers non-drinkers to have more than just the usual sodas and teas. For those who prefer something stronger, MARUKU also offers a selection of alcoholic beers, wines and spirits are also available, making it an easy choice for couples or groups with mixed preferences.

The house original non-alcoholic beer, “MARUKU AF LAGER 0.00%,” is especially recommended. Even for those who are not fond of the typical beer taste, it offers a light, smooth finish that is easy to drink, pleasantly redefining expectations of non-alcoholic beer. Although English-language support may be limited, the staff are accustomed to assisting overseas visitors, whether directly or with the help of translation apps.

Stylish Drinks and a Relaxed Atmosphere – SUMADORI Meets

Originally established in Shibuya, SUMADORI Meets relocated to the quieter backstreets of Omotesando in April 2026, just a two-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Omotesando Station’s A2 exit. A community space centered around non-alcoholic and low-alcohol cocktails, the venue is produced by one of Japan’s leading beer brands, which promotes “Smart Drinking” — a concept encouraging both drinkers and non-drinkers to enjoy social occasions together. Designed as an approachable bar, it offers a welcoming introduction for those who may not be accustomed to drinking culture.

Collaborating with local students, SUMADORI Meets hosts periodic events that encourage people to rethink their relationship with alcohol while creating a space where visitors can enjoy themselves in their own way. The atmosphere is bright and inviting, with a brightly lit interior that feels approachable for those who may find traditional bars overly formal or intimidating.

The signature cocktail menu features a selection of photogenic drinks developed with student collaborators, each available at 0%, 0.5%, or 3% alcohol depending on personal preference. This flexible approach allows drinkers and non-drinkers alike to enjoy the same menu together, making it an especially convenient stop for groups. You can also enjoy a more interactive experience through the custom menu, SUMADORI Custom, selecting everything from the glassware to the color of your drink, its flavour profile, alcohol level and garnish to create a drink uniquely your own.

Alongside the regular menu is a special menu known as The Collection, available only after 5PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Featuring drinks with alcohol content of 10% and above, it offers a fuller-bodied option for those in search of something stronger.
A printed menu is available in both English and Japanese, while the QR code ordering system provides additional multilingual support, allowing international visitors to explore the menu with ease.
