Your current location:
東京西部
原宿|青山&表参道
Looking for a stylish keepsake to bring back from Tokyo? Harajuku and Omotesando, filled with chic cafes and museums, are also home to shops with sophisticated Tokyo gifts like crafts, kimono and brand-name goods bringing fresh inspiration to classical Japanese designs. Head to these popular shopping areas for souvenirs fusing Japanese fashion and craftsmanship.
Located on a leafy street near Omotesando Station, Kimono Yamato feels at home among the other chicly understated fashion boutiques surrounding it, yet stands apart with its Japanese landscaping.
Opened in late 2024, this shop run by Yamato––a Tokyo company dating to 1917––launched with the idea of bringing the beauty of traditional kimono to contemporary lifestyles.
Specializing in brands with innovative designs and versatile wardrobe pieces inspired by kimono, this store is a wonderful place to purchase Tokyo souvenirs like bags, umbrellas, and jewelry. Here are a few fashion-forward options.
Combining kimono with "sukajan," "Sukajan Kimono" is a truly unique and exquisite Japanese fashion souvenir. Sukajan, also called "souvenir jackets," have been popular souvenirs from Japan since shortly after the end of World War II. Sukajan with Asian designs featuring eagles, tigers, dragons and the like are still highly sought after today.
"Sukajan Kimono" were created in collaboration with Tailor Toyo, a brand making sukajan for more than 50 years. Embroidery and piping, characteristics of sukajan, are applied to the sleeves and collars, which are attributes of kimono. This lightweight, haori-like satin overcoat is reversible with different colors and designs on each side. You can try on Sukajan Kimono at the Omotesando Store but can only purchase them online.
Also recommended are modern obi-dome clasps. Obi-dome clasps are small ornaments for fastening obi belts wrapped around the waist while wearing kimono. They add an accent when coordinating kimono, and can be used as a fashionable accessory or charm for daily use.
Obi-dome might also be kept as charms––a sweet reminder of your Japan trip. The Omotesando shop offers a stunning selection of obi-dome designed with Casuca, a Tokyo jewelry maker known for its gracefully minimalist style. One standout piece is a tiny gold tree modeled after the bluebush shrub at the store's entrance.
Kimono Yamato sells Tokyo gifts for a variety of budgets. Don't miss affordable items such as zippable pouches made of minsa, an Okinawan handwoven textile colored with natural plant dyes; or summery shibori tie-dyed handkerchiefs bound with threads that you unravel to reveal dazzling patterns.
United Arrows, carrying original brands and select items, is a well-known shop among Japanese fashion enthusiasts. The Harajuku main store reopened in April 2025 as Tabaya United Arrows, unveiling a redesign and refreshed product lineup including clothing, household goods, art, and antiques.
Here you can find high-quality Tokyo souvenirs, selected on the themes of Japaneseness, aesthetics, and opulent lifestyle.
Make room in your luggage for Tabaya gems adding touches of Japanese style to daily life.
Be sure to check out Tokyo-born daily necessities that are slightly out of the ordinary at this store.
Toothpicks from the Nihonbashi shop Saruya, founded in 1704, are handcrafted one by one by craftsmen and, with only around 400 toothpicks made per day, are precious. Made with wood that is aromatic when broken, these toothpicks were a stylish souvenir during the Edo period (1603-1868). Those sold here feature paper wrapping with feather arrow patterns—a traditional Japanese design. The paulownia wood toothpick box displays a "tabaya" (bundle of arrows) symbolizing the Japanese word after which the store is named, making it an item unique to Tabaya United Arrows.
Ginza-based fragrance maker Kitowa was established in 2018 as Japan’s first fragrance house. Kitowa uses natural oils from Japanese trees—hinoki (cypress), camphor tree, and hiba (cypress). Its bath essence containing hinoki oil from Mie Prefecture is especially popular among its products ranging from incense to perfume and hand cream.
You can also find the finest dental floss for daily use, being "Diamond Floss" by Hirao Sampei Shoten, founded in Kanda as a drugstore. Made with approximately 2000 strands of microfiber, this silky thread slides between teeth easily and cleans thoroughly. The trendy retro paper music box-like packaging also makes this a perfect souvenir choice.
The store's signature pottery pieces are also recommended. Asahi-yaki pottery pieces offer you the chance to take home a work of art. Artisanally made for around 400 years, these ceramics from Kyoto have long been used in tea ceremonies. Bowls and yunomi teacups made specially for this store in distinctive "ruriyu" cobalt blue glaze lure the eye.
The store also has a luxurious cafe and a gallery exhibiting and selling various artworks and brands monthly. Serenely blending high-quality products and Japanese architectural tradition throughout, Tabaya United Arrows is not just a souvenir shopping destination––it's a place to encounter Japanese beauty with an international flair.
Five minutes on foot from Tabaya United Arrows, Good Edition Harajuku opened in March 2025. This souvenir shop carries items, including fashion, mixing Tokyo culture and traditional Japan. Here, you can experience the celebrated blend of high and street fashion in an area known as "Ura-Harajuku," where global and local trends converge.
Inside, clothes, shoes, and accessories by brands including Issey Miyake and Comme des Garçons line shelves on gold-colored panels resembling folding screens. Items such as the following, made in collaboration with artists and designers, are among the store's most enticing.
For example, "Denim Daruma" put a new spin on the centuries-old souvenir daruma––round, wide-eyed dolls named after Zen Buddhism's founding monk.
Denim Daruma are created by skateboarder-turned-artist Aoi Shimizu from scraps of denim and other materials that have outlived their usefulness but still hold precious memories. Among them are original Daruma created in collaboration with fashion labels sold by the store, such as Daruma made with hand towels by the popular men's brand Needles.
"Re Bonsai" are another kind of upcycled treasure at Good Edition. Design firm Toufu Tokyo collects withered bonsai (miniature trees), giving them a beautiful second life by drying and repotting them, adding vibrant colors to their branches.
They need no maintenance or watering and can be shipped internationally. At in-store workshops, you can even choose, trim and assemble your own tree. English-speaking staff members will assist non-Japanese speakers. Reservations are required for the workshops.
Your feet have never felt finer than in "Unda" sandals—a recommended fashion item--by the Tokyo shoemaker Goyemon. These thong-toe flats combine the best of sneaker-like soles, and setta, a type of traditional Japanese footwear made for walking in the snow while wearing kimono.
Good Edition Harajuku opened at the same time as Studious Tokyo, the global flagship store of Studious, a select store that offers brands from Tokyo to the world in China, Hong Kong, and the U.S., just up the street. At this global flagship store, also run by Tokyo Base, streetwear brands popular in Tokyo are available. Here you can try on its edgy fashions in the teahouse-style dressing room.
