On February 13, 2026, Harajuku welcomed a brand new attraction to its ever-evolving pop culture scene. KAWAII MONSTER LAND is a fully immersive entertainment facility that continues the legacy of the internationally renowned Kawaii Monster Cafe, which closed in 2021. Executive producer Sebastian Masuda is an artist known for art direction for the debut music videos and live stage productions of pop artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and for introducing Japan’s “kawaii” culture to audiences overseas. Kawaii Monster Cafe was also produced by Masuda. This new space carries on his distinctive world and is reimagined as a candy-colored playground filled with exciting games, food, and shopping experiences.
Unassuming from the outside, the space is concealed in a basement along Takeshita-dori – the iconic shopping street known as the epicenter of kawaii culture. According to the artist’s concept, KAWAII MONSTER LAND was imagined as a secret underground theme park once inhabited by colorful ‘Kawaii Monsters’ that gathered for lively parties fueled by imagination, music, and self-expression. The story suggests that this universe and its monsters were buried by a natural disaster, cast into a long sleep under the streets of Harajuku – until now.
Visitors must purchase a time-slot ticket with a 60-minute admission window in advance before entering KAWAII MONSTER LAND.
Upon passing through the entrance magic spiral gateway, visitors will enter into a kaleidescopic themepark. J-pop beats pulse through the room, which is decorated with patterned wallpapers and oversized sculptures of cupcakes and sweets. At the center stands Choppy’s Mel-Tea Cup Ride, a teacup-style merry-go-round inspired by Choppy, the wide-eyed, candy-colored mascot of KAWAII MONSTER LAND. With a ride pass, visitors can also take a spin on the attraction.
A world of color and chaos, the space is designed to create a sense of constant discovery. Every detail has been carefully designed, and there are dedicated photo spots where visitors can take pictures surrounded by colorful Monster goods.
While the space is undeniably photogenic, it is not designed as a backdrop alone. Throughout the space, producer Sebastian Masuda’s vision of kawaii culture is reflected. KAWAII MONSTER LAND is about the experience. It is a playground, a performance space, and an immersive art installation all in one. Step inside and immerse yourself fully in this multi-sensory environment.

The room is split into a series of zones – for eating, gaming, and shopping. Along the Colorful Snack Street, a variety of food and drink choices extend the KAWAII aesthetic into taste and texture. Visitors can sample pastel-colored burgers, neon crepes, and decorative donuts at the Monster Kitchen, while BAR Pink Mirage serves milkshakes, smoothies, and cocktails inspired by the Monsters and their mascot Choppy.
On the other side of the room is the Kawaii Monster Carnival area, where visitors can experience classic Japanese gaming, with crane-style machines and playful arcade challenges using the facility’s exclusive coin, KAWACO. You can also try your luck at the Fun Fun Game Arcade, where slot-style games offer the chance to win original prizes and limited-edition novelty items inspired by the Monster world. The rewards range from small collectible goods like scrunchies and keychains to character-themed badges.
No visit to Takeshita-dori is complete without a little shopping. Located within KAWAII MONSTER LAND itself, the Harajuku Gift Bazaar is a colorful in-house merchandise shop dedicated to the park’s distinctive world of kawaii culture. The space functions as a pop-inspired concept store, stocked with original goods available exclusively here. Visitors can also find pieces from 6%DOKIDOKI, a Harajuku fashion brand representing kawaii culture created by Sebastian Masuda.

After enjoying kawaii in each zone, The crescendo of the entire experience is the Kawaii Monster Parade, which transforms the entire space into a theatrical set, with Choppy’s Mel-Tea Cup Ride acting as the main stage. As the music builds and the lighting drops, visitors are introduced to the ‘Monster Girls’ one by one. Each monster has their own distinct style and character: mischievous Crazy, cutesy Dolly, dreamy Baby, playful Candy, and the slightly devilish Natty – alongside their cheerful mascot Choppy.
The performance is polished and energetic, with a special choreography for audience participation. Following the parade, visitors can talk to the Monsters and take photographs with them. Each Monster wears a hand-crafted costume with intricate detailing, textures, and silhouettes. From diamante-studded fabric to teddy bears and giant bows, every element is a product of Sebastian Masuda’s signature vision. The team also plans to introduce seasonal variations for subtle design changes throughout the year, so you can expect new features throughout the year as the underground world and its story continues to expand.
