Tokyo urban life can be busy and hectic, but just north of Shibuya lies a calm oasis that encourages regular exercise and mindfulness. Centered around the tree-lined paths of Yoyogi Park – the perfect place to exercise when the weather cools down in early autumn – this neighborhood is a quiet haven for runners, health-conscious travelers and anyone chasing a slower, more deliberate daily rhythm.
Yoyogi Park Be Stage is a new facility opened spring 2025 that fuses urban lifestyles with Yoyogi Park's natural beauty. Yoyogi Park also connects directly to side streets lined with cozy cafes, wellness-focused eateries and local businesses that welcome runners with a smile.
This guide explores how to start your morning with purpose by lacing up your running shoes, hitting the park and then recharging at some unique and delicious breakfast and lunch spots in the area. Run, refuel, repeat – it’s a rhythm that just might stick with you beyond your time in Japan.
In the heart of Tokyo’s fast-paced energy, Yoyogi Park is a peaceful escape. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just trying to shake off jet lag with a morning jog, the approximately 50-hectare park covering flat terrain is filled with fresh air and routes perfect for runners of all levels.
Yoyogi Park is also surrounded by convenient and motivating wellness infrastructure. The newest highlight is Yoyogi Park Be Stage, a brand-new urban lifestyle facility on the southern edge of the park near Yoyogi National Gymnasium, designed to encourage people to make discoveries and embrace new challenges on life's grand stage.
Be Stage is anchored by Runtrip Base Yoyogi Park, which opened on June 16, 2025. At this runner-centric facility on the third floor, registering with the popular running app Runtrip allows you to easily check in with the code at reception and access showers and changing rooms available for a fee. Runtrip Base is also home to Mariness Cafe, featuring healthy food options and craft beer for runners in the mood for a pint.
The friendly atmosphere here makes it easy to start conversations with other runners, and every kilometer you run and log with the Runtrip app contributes 0.1 yen donated to nature preservation in Yoyogi Park. The entire facility is a game changer for runners exploring Tokyo's urban active lifestyle – the perfect way to squeeze in a jog before a day of sightseeing or after checking out of your hotel.
Be Stage is also home to New Balance Run Hub Yoyogi Park, a shop catering to both casual runners and serious athletes. Guests can have their feet 3D measured to find the perfect pair of new running shoes, and borrow free loaner shoes for a test run in Yoyogi Park while stashing their valuables in free lockers. Of course, their world-class running shoes and performance gear are available to purchase. New Balance Run Hub also features a cafe with energizing post-run smoothies alongside coffee and espresso drinks.
Post-run, Be Stage is a great place to refuel and recharge. On the first floor you'll find Tiki's Tokyo – the first international location of the popular Honolulu grill and bar – serving standout dishes like the Ahi Tartare Stack, tomahawk steaks, nachos and pancakes. At North Shore Cafe connected to Tiki's Tokyo, you can also enjoy Hawaiian coffee, fluffy malassada doughnuts and acai bowls to go.
Be Stage also hosts onstage events including live music and dance performances in front of a lush grass lawn, making it a fun destination for everyone. The facility also includes a free skatepark. Located between Harajuku and Shibuya, it's a great spot for tourists exploring an exciting, active side of Tokyo while embracing wellness, one stride at a time.
Just a ten-minute walk from the western edge of Yoyogi Park lies the small but stylish Osikuramanju, a Taiwanese breakfast spot tucked into the laid-back neighborhood of Yoyogi Hachiman.
Osikuramanju serves Taiwanese comfort food, including signature dishes like Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly over rice) and silky soy milk soup with fried bread, alongside other staples and creative daily offerings. It’s a refreshing take on brunch – light, satisfying and perfect after a run – with takeout options also available.
The space itself is compact, a fusion of Taiwanese open-air market with Japanese retro atmosphere featuring plush red seating and an energetic playlist in the background. It’s popular with locals and foodies in the know, but still feels calm and relaxing.
What makes Osikuramanju a great post-run destination isn’t just the food. Below the restaurant is a small kickboxing gym that encourages both locals and travelers to start their day with a refreshing workout. Shower rooms are also available for both kickboxing gym users or visiting runners (for a fee).
Osikuramanju is another example of how this part of Tokyo supports health and movement on a daily basis. Here, you’re never far from something that gets your heart beating – whether it’s a jog, a workout, or a really good meal.
This cozy onigiri rice ball cafe is a favorite with local runners, health-conscious diners and anyone who loves delicious onigiri. Just a few blocks from Yoyogi Park’s western entrance and easily accessible from both Yoyogi-Koen and Yoyogi-Hachiman stations, Onigily Cafe Yoyogi Koen offers something a little more traditional – but no less satisfying.
The star ingredient is Koshihikari rice sourced from Saku in Nagano Prefecture, a premium Japanese variety prized for its slightly chewy texture and natural sweetness. You can taste the quality in every bite – especially when paired with classic fillings like umeboshi (pickled plum), grilled salmon or seasonal vegetables.
Onigily Cafe prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for breakfast or lunch after your workout. The cafe also offers simple sides like pickled vegetables, potato salad or miso soup, making it easy to create a light but energizing meal. The vibe is casual and welcoming, inviting guests to sip coffee or tea after their meal and relax. If you look closely, cute onigiri-shaped triangle design accents are hidden throughout the shop.
Onigiri rice balls are having a global moment, and people around the world are discovering the rice ball's nutritional, portable appeal. At Onigily Cafe, you get the real thing – freshly made, nourishing and deeply rooted in Japanese food culture.
Tucked into a quiet corner just south of Yoyogi Park, Greek Parlor offers a satisfying post-run treat – Greek yogurt dishes with toppings that are healthy yet indulgent. They're great for a protein-packed meal anytime, or healthy recovery as a mid-morning recharge. The shop specializes in rich, strained yogurt with a texture somewhere between mousse and cream cheese, made in-house through a reduction process that concentrates flavor and nutrients into every serving.
The menu features Greek yogurt combinations like apple cinnamon, mixed berry and banana, seasonal fruit and prosciutto, and savory salmon and avocado. The house granola is simple and offers healthy crunch without overwhelming sweetness, pairing beautifully with the yogurt’s subtle tang and creamy depth.
Greek Parlor stands out for its dedication to quality and prime location. Close to the Yoyogi Park running loop and cozy local hotels, the parlor offers a warm welcome and tourist-friendly vibe. Greek yogurt has seen a surge in popularity worldwide, and Greek Parlor acts as a delicious bridge between Tokyo’s global future and popular trends in gourmet food, health and wellness. Whether you’re recovering from a run or simply looking for a gut-friendly, protein-rich meal, this spot delivers.
