Located in Ginza, Tokyo and opened on January 26, 2025, Ginza Sony Park is a multi-faceted public space that hosts ever-changing experiences and provides areas for relaxing in Tokyo.
This new attraction in Tokyo is located on the site of the original Sony Building. The former Sony Building featured an approximately 33-square meter public space called the Garden of Ginza, which was inspired by Sony's founders’ desire to create an open space for the community. During the building’s demolition period, Sony continued this legacy by developing the site into a park within the city and hosting various events rather than immediately constructing a new building. This temporary park was in operation from 2018 to 2021 and welcomed 8.54 million visitors. In October 2021, Sony resumed construction of the present-day Ginza Sony Park.
The concept of Ginza Sony Park revolves around the important element of "space" in a park. Ginza Sony Park’s fifth floor rooftop stands at a height of approximately 20 meters, which is relatively low compared to the over 50-meter tall high-rise buildings surrounding it. This intentional height difference creates a spacious atmosphere on the rooftop, where the view of Ginza’s sky and the expansive presence of Sukiyabashi intersection in front of the park further enhance its sense of openness. On the rooftop, you can enjoy a relaxing lunch in Ginza or simply take a break.
From the 5th floor above ground to the 3rd floor below ground, the building is seamlessly connected by a series of elegant stairs and slopes—creating a sense of unity with Ginza. Light pours onto the landings, and wind flows through the windows. You can enjoy a "vertical Ginza stroll," freely moving between the interior and exterior of the building.
The ground level faces three major streets in Ginza, the second basement level is directly connected to the subway concourse, and the third basement level is connected to one of the largest underground parking lots in the area. Additionally, on the ground level, there is no boundary between the inside and outside of the park, continuing its philosophy of being a "facility open to the public."
Ginza Sony Park does not house tenants or shops. Instead, each floor hosts a variety of temporary events, exhibitions, and pop-up stores. The offerings, which primarily focus on music and art, will be available for limited periods of time and change regularly, keeping the venue fresh and engaging. You can learn more about what’s happening via its website and social media platforms—available in Japanese and English. Enrich your Tokyo trip with a limited-time experience that may never repeat.
During the entire construction period, up to this point, the facility has displayed portraits of endangered species on its exterior walls and held a collaborative exhibition with "sakamotocommon," an initiative dedicated to preserving the intellectual property of musician Ryuichi Sakamoto for the future. The park has carried out many creative projects in its evolving space. Moving forward, Ginza Sony Park will serve as a platform where anyone can easily engage with art and enjoy a variety of interactive programs.
While Ginza is home to many art galleries, Ginza Sony Park stands out as a dynamic venue for art, music, and relaxation where you and all other visitors play a key role in coloring its blank spaces.
