New Spots Opening This Spring in Ikebukuro

Ikebukuro is a dynamic and bustling area of Tokyo, with an exciting range of department stores, electronics stores, and anime-related shops. Sunshine City is a popular complex facility that celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2023. Here we introduce two new spots that opened in spring 2023. Sunshine 60 Observatory Tenbou-Park is a sky park that offers a spectacular viewing experience 365 days a year, and the Papillon Building is a social gathering place with a pub and event space.

Sunshine 60 Observatory TENBOU-PARK

Tenbou-Park is located on the 60th floor of the Sunshine 60 Building, and from a height of 251 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Tokyo. On a clear day you can see Mt. Tsukuba, the Nikko mountain range, and Mt. Fuji towering over the Tanzawa foothills in the distance. Once night falls, look out on the neon lights of Tokyo and the skyscrapers of Shinjuku.
Take the "Shining Elevator" from the first basement floor to the 60th floor in just 35 seconds at a speed of 600m/min.
In the Tenbou-no-oka area you can lie down and relax on the artificial grass, or sit on the benches and cushions, surrounded by seasonal plants. Enjoy the ever-changing skyscape, and watch the clouds pass by.
There’s a space for small children, equipped with picture books and educational toys, as well as a baby room. The Tenbou-Park Cafe has a calming atmosphere and an original food menu. Or, if you prefer, on weekdays, you can bring your own picnic lunch. There’s also an Event Space which hosts a range of events and exhibitions, promoting the area as part of an international city of art and culture.

Papillon Building (P-144)

The Papillon Building is a three-story building with one basement floor, operated by Sunshine City. Here you’ll find “P-144,” a complex facility containing a pub and an event space.
The Papillon Building is a place for people to gather, interact and create. As the name suggests, people can spread their wings like butterflies, relax and be inspired.
This "town community base” hosts various projects on a wide variety of themes such as food, art, entertainment, business and social issues. In the event space “Garden” you’ll find collaborations with local government and national companies, including talk shows, pop-up stores, and galleries.
The pub offers original craft beer, and a food menu with a range of ethnic and healthy options.
