In recent years, transit hub Ikebukuro has made a name for itself as a magnet for anime fans. But there's more than just anime to see here. Home to a thriving arts and culture scene, Ikebukuro is also becoming a hotspot for live stage performances. With the opening of Hareza Ikebukuro, the grand reopening of Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park, and the IKEBUS to shuttle visitors back and forth, there's something new for everyone to see here.
Hareza Ikebukuro refers to the area of east Ikebukuro that encompasses Tokyo TATEMONO Brillia HALL the Toshima Civic Center, Naka-Ikebukuro Park , and Hareza Tower. Here, you can find eight performing arts stages within just a few blocks!
Toshima Arts and Culture Theatre, a 1,300-seat performance hall, hosts stage events ranging from traditional performing arts such as kabuki and rakugo, to musicals and ballet. It is also home to Haresuta (Hareza STUDIO), a rental studio for creators on the popular streaming website Nico Nico Douga. At Brillia Hall, you can also find Harevutai, a live house that hosts both live and CG performances.
Just next door to Brillia Hall is the Toshima Civic Center, with a free Papa/Mama Spot and luxury restrooms with dressing and makeup corners, among other facilities. Anyone is welcome to drop by! Meanwhile, Naka-Ikebukuro Park is a spacious open area, perfect for resting or eating lunch al fresco.
The newly reopened Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park (also known as Ikebukuro West Gate Park), located just steps from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit, is a place where visitors can catch a performance or just relax. The wide-open stage area, dubbed Global Ring Theatre, hosts events such as live music performances and festivals. It's worth coming to the park even on days when no events are scheduled. Drop by at night to see the area lit up with stunning lights, or stop by during the day to grab a quick bite or drink from the GLOBAL RING CAFÉ.
A fun new way to get around is the IKEBUS, an electric bus that travels in a loop around Ikebukuro. Keep an eye out for this funky and multi-wheeled red vehicle! For just 200 yen, hop on for a new way to experience the town. Stops include the East and West exits of Ikebukuro Station, Hareza, and Sunshine City.
