Discovering Tokyo by bicycle is a fun way to explore the city offering you a wider range of sights and sounds that might otherwise be missed if you are traveling on other forms of public transport.
Tokyo's bicycle sharing services allow you to freely rent and return bikes from multiple docking stations throughout the city. You can rent a bike from one, and return it at another. There are dedicated apps that will direct you to the nearest location. With many of the services, the rental fee also includes a range of damage cover, granting peace of mind.
Among the beautiful natural scenery of Okutama and Ome, you can rent e-bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, and more. It's a great option for those who enjoy the sportier side of cycling.

When riding a bicycle, make sure to follow Japan's traffic laws. If the sidewalk and road are separate, you should generally ride on the road, keeping to the left, and moving in the same direction as the cars. You may ride on the sidewalk if there's a sign informing you that you're allowed to do so. Cyclists are encouraged to wear a helmet. Make sure to park your bicycle in a designated parking area. If you park anywhere outside of these areas, the bike may be removed, and you may be subject to a fine.
Please cycle safely, following the traffic rules stated on the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's website. Tokyo Metropolitan Government ordinance requires all cyclists to be covered by liability insurance.
Going on your own Tokyo cycling adventure can be fantastic, but if you want a more curated experience, or you just want to make sure you don't get lost, the city offers a wide range of guided cycling tours, including plenty with English-speaking guides.
