Experience a different side to the common knowledge of Tokyo (Big city). Head out west on a train from Shinjuku to Mitake Valley and Hachioji. Start at the Sawanoien Seiryu Garden for sake tasting, then explore the autumn illuminations along the riverside before ending the night with one of the most premium Teppanyaki experiences can be available.

A famous sake brewery right in Tokyo

Sawanoi Kikizake Dokoro (Ozawa Shuzo)

I could smell the sake in the air, as soon as we stepped off the train. The tasting experience at the Sawanoien Seiryu Garden really compliments the riverside. It's such a peaceful spot to enjoy some sake amongst the Ginkgo trees whilst you watch nature pass by.

Walk to Sawai Station, and take the JR Ome Line to Mitake Station. Walk 2 minutes to the Ome Mitake Gorge Autumn Light Up entrance.

Forests of autumn leaves lit up beautifully

Mitake Gorge

I loved exploring the forest-lined river with autumn color of leaves. The effectiveness of the lights really show off the glorious colours of each tree along the river, giving a majestic and magical atmosphere throughout.

Walk to Mitake Station, and take the JR Ome Line to Haijima Station. Transfer to the JR Hachiko Line and take it to Hachioji Station, and from there walk 10 minutes to Ukai-tei.

A teppanyaki meal to delight all five senses

Ukaitei

Ending the night with one of the most premium experiences of Teppanyaki I've ever had. The quality of the meats and selection of wines, were matched perfectly. The ambience at Hachioji Ukai-Tei is modest class, with influences of French style coupled with Japanese quality and service.
