Dyeing Workshop Some no Sato OCHIAI (Futaba Inc.)

2-3-6 Kamiochiai, Shinjuku City, Tokyo

Your current location:

Colors come alive in an Edo hand-printing technique

Try for yourself the hand-printing techniques used during the Edo period (1603-1867) at this dyeing workshop. You can experience making tablecloth by using 13 paper patterns and shades of seven colors. You can also enjoy a "non-dyeing" technique using patterns and discharging colors by using starch, seasonal pattern dyeing fundamental to traditional bingata dyeing, or various seasonal types of vegetable and plant dyeing featuring the studio’s own locally produced persimmon juice or cherry blossoms, or fresh indigo leaf dyeing.
