The Marunouchi area extends from the beautifully restored Tokyo Station building towards the Imperial Palace. Once the domain of the wealthy Iwasaki family who started the Mitsubishi business empire, the streets are now lined with modern skyscrapers, reminiscent of Manhattan.
• Take a stroll down the sculpture-lined Marunouchi Naka-dori Street on a Sunday, when it is closed to traffic
• Chocolate lovers take note: the area has a large number of international chocolate boutiques
• With local workers in mind, the large office buildings have reasonable lunch restaurants and after-work drinking spots
• Head to the rooftop garden at Kitte in the evening, for a spectacular view of Tokyo Station
