In celebration of the Buddha's birthday on April 8, the town of Ikegami comes together to hold the Ikegami Honmonji Temple Spring Festival on the first weekend of April, with Ikegami Honmonji at its center.
Ikegami Honmonji Temple is home to the oldest five-story pagoda in the Kanto region. This pagoda is an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and once a year, a special unveiling ceremony takes place here. During the festival, you can try hydrangea tea, a drink symbolic of the birth of the Buddha. Local children will also lead a flower parade.
You can feel the arrival of spring in the lush, green temple grounds.
