At Kutsu no Megumi Shoe Festival, people connected to the shoemaking industry gather to offer thanks to the patron deity of Tamahime Inari-jinja Shrine. Modeled after the Niinamesai, an autumn harvest ritual conducted by the emperor, the festival involves a shoe memorial and offerings of gratitude. It has taken place annually since 1974. Over 100,000 items—including men and women's shoes, belts, wallets and leather shoe-related products—are on sale from 60 to 80% off at this event. Say your last goodbyes to your favorite worn-out pair of shoes during a special memorial ceremony before finding yourself a new pair or two.
Additionally, there will be a ceremony for the Japan Shoes Best Dresser Awards and the announcement of the Craftsman Grand Prix. Other highlights include a shoe fashion show and parade of kutsu mikoshi, portable shoe-shaped shrines in honor of both men's and women's footwear.
