The summer festival in Ueno takes place over 5 weeks features a different event every day, like a toro nagashi paper-lantern floating ceremony and ice-sculpture displays. About halfway around Shinobazuno-ike Pond extends an antique market, which always attracts a crowd. This is also a good area to take a break, gazing at the lotus flowers and feeling the cool breeze from the pond.

The Suijo Ongaku-do (lakefront concert hall) stages music and folk entertainment performances.

*On Saturday, July 21, 2018, starting at 5:30 p.m. there will be a grand parade down Chuo-dori Street. This “Natsu-matsuri Parade” kicks off the 5-week festival, and this year will be in collaboration with Tohoku Sandai Matsuri.
