Ekoin 回向院

2-8-10 Ryogoku, Sumida-ku, Tokyo

Discover the heart of sumo at Ekoin. Known for being the spiritual home of sumo wrestling, sumo tournaments were held at this temple until 1909 when Ryogoku Kokugikan was built. Visit Chikarazuka, the "Mound of Strength" gifted by the Sumo Association and an object of veneration for new sumo wrestlers. See if you can spot one of these aspiring athletes.
