Experience the local side of Japan by visiting this festival filled shopping street
Starting from the south exit of Asagaya Station and stretching 700 meters down through the area, Asagaya Pearl Center is an undercover shopping street, known in Japanese as a shotengai. Filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, and other small businesses, visit if you want to experience a truly authentic taste of local Japanese life.
Although not your typical tourist destination, Asagaya Pearl Center comes alive during its many regular local celebrations. Two highlights are in August when the street is populated by giant Tanabata Matsuri floats, and October as the bars, clubs, and other public spaces in the area host live music performances during the annual Asagaya Jazz Streets festival.
