In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), various facilities around Tokyo may change their operating days or hours. In addition, some events may be canceled or postponed. Please check official facility or event websites for the latest updates and information.
Only accessible by a 24-hour ferry ride from Tokyo, Chichijima isn’t one of the easiest places in Japan to get to. Those who visit, however, say it’s worth the journey. To get a better view of the area, head to the Weather Station Observatory located on the northwestern corner of the island.
Chichijima offers a network of observation points and trails you can explore, but this observatory, located about a 30-minute walk from Futami Port, is one of the highlights. One of the best places on the island to watch the setting sun, make sure to bring your binoculars if you’re visiting between February and April when humpback whales frequent the island waters.
For updated information on opening hours, closings, prices, and more, please check the official website or ask the facility directly.
