In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), various facilities around Tokyo may change their operating days or hours. In addition, some events may be canceled or postponed. Please check official facility or event websites for the latest updates and information.
If you're a fan of design, then you should definitely schedule in a visit to 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. Conveniently located in Roppongi in the center of Tokyo, the museum was designed by the legendary Japanese architect Tadao Ando and founded by the award-winning fashion designer Issey Miyake.
Before entering 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, it's worth admiring the beautiful architecture, which is as much a feature of the museum as the exhibits they contain.
Inside the buildings are two large gallery spaces which host a variety of design- and architecture-themed exhibits that, in the words of the museum. "hope to redirect our eyes to everyday things and events."
The smaller Gallery 3 space, meanwhile, hosts exhibitions in collaboration with both Japanese and overseas companies that aim to explore design as a medium. These exhibitions tend to be a mix of both forward-looking and retrospective collections.
