Explore modern history at the National Archives of Japan

The National Archives of Japan preserve important government documents and historical materials, and makes them available to the public. It was the first government archive of its type in Japan.

There are regular exhibitions that show certain areas of the collection, and a digital archive where you can access some of the material. Of particular interest is documentation about Japan's relationship with other Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

The National Archives of Japan are located in the Imperial Palace complex in Tokyo's central Chiyoda Ward.
