Lake Okutama 奥多摩湖

Hara, Okutama-machi, Tokyo

Escape from Tokyo's urban center to the scenic shores of Lake Okutama

Lake Okutama is a popular sightseeing destination that's easily accessible as a day trip from central Tokyo. Situated in a national park just west of the city, it's perfect for seeing cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, and the changing leaves in autumn.

Tips

  • Take a break at the hot springs near the lake
  • Go for a walk on one of the trails, many of which are great for beginners

Made when the Ogouchi Dam was built across the Tama River, Okutama Lake is extraordinarily scenic. Surrounded on all sides by mountains, the lake and its surrounding area offers easy access to the kind of nature you cannot find in a city center.

There are several hot spring resorts around the lake, which are perfect to visit after a day of walking. Stop by for a soak and let your worries melt away.
