The spotless, white sandy beach stretching one kilometer at Maehama is one of the attractions on the lush island of Kozushima that lure in Tokyoites looking for a weekend retreat during the warmer months. Besides enjoying the seaside activities and watersports on offer here, keen hikers can embark on the roughly six-hour climb up Mt. Tenjyo, which offers stunning views over the island. The Tokai Kisen high-speed ferry departs from Takeshiba port, a short walk from JR Hamamatsucho Station in central Tokyo. You can reach Kozushima in about three and a half hours.
