Creating bridges through art
The Tokyo Fuji Art Museum opened on November 3, 1983, in Hachioji, a university town in the western suburbs of Tokyo. With the motto “fostering global citizens is our mandate,” this museum has developed relationships with art museums and cultural institutions in 32 countries and regions, and it plans and holds special exhibitions for international exchange that introduce outstanding art from various countries. The museum is known for having some of the most impressive collections in Japan, with over 30,000 works of art from Japan and around the world, such as paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, lacquerware, armor, swords and medallions, as well as an extensive collection of Western oil paintings covering 500 years of history across the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Romantic, Impressionist and Contemporary periods, and even a photography collection tracing the history of photography from its earliest days to the present.
