Niijima Glass Art Center 新島ガラスアートセンター

Mamashitakaigan-dori, Honson, Niijima Village, Tokyo

Your current location:

Gorgeous olive-green glass made from the rhyolite of Niijima Island

Niijima Island is one of the lush volcanic islands that make up the Izu Archipelago. Rock deposits on Niijima created by the volcanic forces that shaped these islands are used to make Niijima glass, a beautiful and unique local product.

Visit Niijima Glass Art Center, on the west coast of Niijima Island. Try your hand at making your own Niijima glass souvenir guided by a local technician in their glassworks studio, the perfect memento of your time on this special island. Alternatively, take the opportunity to pick up some glass made by local artisans. Its asymmetric shape and handmade quality make this unique glass a great gift.
