At 854 meters above sea level, Mt. Hachijo-Fuji, a cone-shaped mountain in the west of Hachijojima Island, is the highest peak of the Tokyo Islands. It gets its name from the iconic Mt. Fuji, to which it bears an uncanny resemblance.

You can drive up to its trailhead, from where it is 1,280 steps to the summit through cattle-grazing pastures and a small dairy farm. Or, if you are an avid hiker, you will relish the seven-hour hike up and down the mountain via the 14.5-kilometer route starting from the Sokodo Campsite.

Either way, at the summit, walk around the dramatic volcanic crater while taking in the unparalleled views of the horizon.
