Goldfish Exhibition 葛飾区金魚展示場

1-1 Mizumotokoen Katsushika-ku Tokyo

A goldfish paradise

You may have heard of koi carp beauty contests, but did you know goldfish are also highly prized in Japan? Goldfish Exhibition in Shibamata, a neighborhood in eastern Tokyo, is one of the few places you can find that executes large-scale commercial goldfish breeding in the city. Carrying up to 1,000 goldfish of an impressive 24 species (though there are around 300 in the world), including the so-called Edo Akane and Edo Nishiki varieties. If you are looking for a companion for the aquarium at home, however, you will have to look elsewhere: none of these pure-bred fish are for sale.
