The Museum of Zen Culture and History 駒澤大学 禅文化歴史博物館

1-23-1 Komazawa, Setagaya City, Tokyo

Everything you wanted to know about the art of Zen

The Museum of Zen Culture and History was established in the Kounkan building, part of Komazawa University.
Comprising two floors—the lower floor and upper floor—the museum houses both a permanent collection and a temporary one. This museum offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Zen musical instruments, view a recreation of trainee monks’ living space, learn about the history of Zen, and experience and better understand the world of Zen.
The Kounkan building itself is also worthy of note—with its distinctive folding screen-shaped exterior and interior high-ceilinged atrium—and is a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
