Spend some down time in Tokyo's sprawling open space
This former military housing complex and airfield in northern Tokyo is now a sprawling park full of wide-open spaces and tree-lined paths. Spend time in nature among the 17,000 trees and the countless flowers. Approximately 1,000 cherry trees and spacious fields also make this park a great place for cherry blossom picnic parties in spring, and the ginkgo tree-lined paths are perfect for admiring the brilliant colors of fall. Other facilities include fields for various sports, a barbecue area (reservations required), a bird sanctuary (open only on weekends and public holidays), a pond, and play areas for kids.
