On the east side of Miyakejima Island is Satado-misaki Promontory—a lookout point that stands atop rugged cliffs 20 meters above the ocean. When you visit the grassy, lava rock-strewn promontory that rolls gently toward the cliffs, you'll be able to see signs of the flow of lava leading down to the sea. A chalk-white lighthouse overlooks the promontory.
Satado-misaki Promontory is just north of Miike Beach, which is famous for its black sand, surfing and sea turtle sightings.
