The heart of Harajuku fashion and culture

One of Tokyo's most well-known department stores, Laforet is the beating heart of Harajuku youth fashion. Located right down the street from Harajuku Station, on the corner of Omotesando-dori Street and Meiji-dori Street, it's packed with clothing and culture stores to suit all your trendy shopping needs.

Tips

  • Shopping till you drop at over 140 shops
  • Grabbing crazy deals during the biannual sale
  • Catching glimpses of the latest Tokyo youth fashion

Check out the many floors, with everything from Vivienne Westwood, to small Tokyo-based fashion brands, and everything in between. Not limited to just women's fashion, you can sate your fashion appetite with men's clothing shops, cute and/or eccentric accessory stands, and shoe stores galore—you can even get your groove on at a CD shop. With new shops popping up all the time, you can spend hours just browsing through all the options. Japanese fashionistas flock here by the hundreds daily, and thousands more come for the biannual Laforet Grand Bazar Sale. Visit during the sale—held for a few days during summer (usually in late July, over a long weekend) and winter (around late January)—to search for ridiculous bargains and to catch hordes of fashionable Japanese youth doing the same.

Once you're famished from the inevitable shopping spree, head to the second floor for delicious eats, including Tex-Mex style burrito shop, Guzman y Gomez, and a peculiar onigiri (Japanese-style rice ball) stand. If you've had your fill of consumerism, visit the Laforet Museum on the 6th floor to get educated on modern art, music and culture. Even if you're not into shopping, Laforet is a great place to see the cutting-edge of Japanese fashion trends while taking in the sights and sounds of youth culture in action. You can also experience the more claustrophobic and chaotic side of Harajuku shopping on Takeshita-dori Street, just a short walk away.
