In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), various facilities around Tokyo may change their operating days or hours. In addition, some events may be canceled or postponed. Please check official facility or event websites for the latest updates and information.
Situated halfway up a mountain near Mt. Mito, Hinohara Tokyo Citizens’ Forest is a place for city folk to get away from the urban world, reconnect with nature, and get into what's known as “forest therapy.”
The paths at Hinohara wind through lush forest and offer views of creeks, waterfalls and mountainsides; seasonal color changes add to the display. There are paths for all levels, from seasoned hikers looking for a rugged trek to kids and older folks wanting a relaxing stroll. Japan's Forest Therapy Society says the “Therapy Road” trail here is guaranteed to soothe both body and mind—a claim now backed by science.
Other activities in the area include birdwatching, and woodworking and charcoal-making classes.
