Learn about local flora and fauna at this nature museum at the foot of Mt. Takao
The Takao 599 Museum invites you to experience the surrounding nature of the Takao area in a relaxing environment designed to appeal to all ages. It is dedicated to showcasing the diverse animal and plant life of Takaosan, as well as disseminating practical information to hikers. A four-minute walk from the exit of Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line, it’s a convenient place to stop before heading up to the top of the mountain.
A highlight of the museum is the Nature Wall, where you will find an array of taxidermied animals against the backdrop of a projection mapping wall, showing the animals in the forest throughout the seasons. The impressive Nature Collection in the main hall displays wildflowers and insects encased beautifully in acrylic resin. There are also hands-on educational activities for children, and an attractive cafe furnished with wooden tables and chairs sourced from the area.
