Takajo-kun Custom-Designed Manhole Covers 「たかじょうくん」デザインマンホール

3-26-12 Shimo-Renjaku, near JR Mitaka Station South Gate and 1 other spot, Mitaka City, Tokyo

You will find manhole covers featuring a design of "Takajo-kun" at two locations in Mitaka City, including near JR Mitaka Station South Gate. Friendly residents of the city worked together to create Takajo-kun, a mascot character representing a falconer, to welcome and introduce the city and its history to international visitors. People went hunting with falcons in the Mitaka area, covering Setagaya, Nogata, and Fuchu, in the Edo period. That's why the area was named "Mitaka," which means "three falcons."
