Toshima City Tokiwaso Manga Museum 豊島区立 トキワ荘マンガミュージアム

Minami-nagasaki Hanasaki Park, 3-9-22, Minaminagasaki, Toshima City, Tokyo

Tokiwaso is now open as a new manga museum!!

Once in Shiinamachi, Toshima-ku (now Minaminagasaki), Tokiwaso is a legendary apartment where Osamu Tezuka and other modern manga masters lived and spent their youthful days.
It was dismantled in December 1982, but has been open as a manga museum since July 2020. The museum plays a role in passing on manga and anime culture to the next generation and transmitting it to the world.

If you go up the stairs from the entrance to the 2nd floor, you will find an area that recreates Tokiwaso as it stood in the 30's of the Showa period. There are communal kitchens, toilets, and manga artists' rooms across the corridor. The highlights are the realistic reproduction of people as if they were there a while ago, such as the stains on the wall and the half-eaten ramen bowl placed in the kitchen.

Among the rooms where manga artists lived, the rooms of Hideko Mizuno, Tokuo Yokota, and Joji Yamauchi are reproduced. Along with the scale of four and a half tatami mats, you will be able to experience the life of a manga artist at that time with tools and daily necessities for drawing manga placed around the room.
