Custom-designed manhole covers featuring Ome City’s official character Yume-Ume-chan are located throughout Ome City.
Yume-Ume-chan holds a wand topped with the city's official flower, the plum blossom (ume), and is dressed in a kimono referencing the Tama River, the Japanese bush warbler, fireworks, and other famous aspects of Ome City. The character was designed by celebrity Tomoe Shinohara, a native of and goodwill ambassador for the city.
