Encompassing a huge collection of art ranging from the end of the 19th century to the modern day, the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) showcases works by both Japanese and international artists, demonstrating the cultural impact the West has had on Japanese art, starting at the turn of the 20th century. With over 13,000 items, the works at MOMAT reflect a turbulent Japan that was rapidly modernizing and changing as they were created, giving you an extensive visual insight into the time period.
The museum building itself is in a beautiful area of Tokyo; nearby, the Imperial Palace and its vast green surroundings are especially lovely in the spring and autumn. Although Takebashi Station is right beside the museum, a walk from Tokyo Station will take you through several historic sights on your way. The relaxation space named "Nagame-no-yoi Heya (A Room With A View)" on the building's top fourth floor offers scenic views of the area.
