In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), various facilities around Tokyo may change their operating days or hours. In addition, some events may be canceled or postponed. Please check official facility or event websites for the latest updates and information.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo first opened in 1995, but has been closed for the past three years for renovations. Its upgraded facilities will reopen to the public on March 29. The museum's collection contains around 5,400 works of art, and it acquired 400 new pieces during its closure. In honor of its grand reopening, the museum will hold two carefully curated exhibitions that will be on display until June 16, 2019.

Announcing Two Brand-New Exhibitions

A special exhibition entitled "Weavers of Worlds—A Century of Flux in Japanese Modern/Contemporary Art—" will contain Japanese art from the 1910 to the 2010s, mostly selected from the museum's collection. To take full advantage of this opportunity, the museum will use special exhibition galleries on three floors. The second exhibition, "Pleased to meet you. New Acquisitions in recent years," is from the "MOT Collection" series. The theme for 2019's first installment is focused on introducing the museum's newest pieces, especially those obtained over the past three years. It will also include some works that have been restored and will be on display for the first time.
