Anamori inari shrine is located very close to Haneda Airport and famous for its Senbon Torii gates, or one thousand gates, and for its benefit of travel safety. In late August, annual Lantern Festival is held as a tribute to the Manto (tens of thousands of lanterns) ritual in July of Fushimi inari shrine in Kyoto, which is the head shrine of all inari shrines. Now it has become one of the popular summer features of Haneda area.
During the Lantern Festival, a Shinto priest starts a sacred fire, purifies it in front of God and then, using it as a source, lights each candle. Worshipers from all around Japan put the candles into lanterns, thereby granting their wishes. Almost ten thousand lanterns are lined up.
In addition, there will be musical offering of maiden ceremonial dance performed by Gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) Society as well as local confectionary and food stalls.
Located just a short distance from Haneda Airport, Anamori Inari Shrine is a wonderful place to experience a traditional Japanese festival and local culture during your trip to Tokyo.
Don’t miss this fantastical lighting ceremony and get the memorable summer experience!
