Once located in Shina Town (present Minami-Nagasaki Town) in Toshima-ku, the Tokiwa-so apartment building was home to many young manga artists who went on to become quite famous, including Osamu Tezuka.
Although the building was demolished in December 1982, the Manga Museum is very close to the original Tokiwa-so location. Built in July 2020, it has played an important role in passing down manga and anime culture to the younger generation and manga fans around the world.
Tokiwa-so Street Rest Spot and Tokiwa-so Manga Station are an eight-minute walk from the museum. There are also some monuments recognizing manga artists connected to Tokiwa-so, and visitors are welcome to enjoy a stroll around the area after visiting the museum.
