Asakusa

In 2025, the Asakusa Samba Carnival will take place for the 40th time, and Japan and Brazil will celebrate 130 years of diplomatic relations. It's an anniversary year.

The Asakusa Samba Carnival, marking the end of summer in Asakusa, has steadily developed since 1981 with the support of locals, who love a little boisterousness. Modeled on the Rio De Janeiro Carnival in Brazil, it has grown into one of the largest samba carnivals in the northern hemisphere thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of the participating teams. This event now attracts some half-a-million visitors annually. Feel the passion of the impressive percussion (bateria), dynamic dancers, songs that enliven the carnival, gorgeously decorated floats (alegoria), and samba rhythms reverberating through Asakusa.
