Toraya is a Japanese confectioner with 500 years of history. Its newly refurbished flagship store in Akasaka will reopen on Monday, October 1, 2018. Inside, you will find a shop, a café, a gallery and a workshop. The building facade is covered in glass, giving it an open and inclusive atmosphere. The wooden interior, made from Japanese cypress, embodies the best of elegant tradition.
The basement level has a gallery featuring Japanese confections and culture. Upstairs is a shop selling Toraya's signature yokan (a sweet jelly made from red bean paste) and other sweets. Go up to the third floor and you'll find yourself at the Toraya Pavilion, where you can order delicious sweets. Will you choose shiruko, a sweet soup? Or perhaps anmitsu—a bowl of agar, jelly and salted peas?
