Toraya is a Japanese confectioner with 500 years of history. Its newly refurbished flagship store in Akasaka will reopen on Monday, October 1, 2018. Inside, you will find a shop, a factory, a cafe and a gallery. The building facade is covered in glass, giving it an open and inclusive atmosphere. The wooden interior, made from Japanese cypress, embodies the best of elegant tradition.

The basement level has a gallery featuring Japanese confections and culture. Upstairs is a shop selling Toraya's signature yokan (a sweet jelly made from red bean paste) and other sweets. Go up to the third floor and you'll find yourself at the Toraya Pavilion, where you can order delicious sweets. Will you choose shiruko, a sweet soup? Or perhaps anmitsu—a bowl of fruit, ice cream and jelly? To help you choose, watch through glass windows as Toraya's skillful artisans hand-make these confections.

Whether you want to try some Japanese confections for yourself, buy some for a friend, or just learn about this facet of Japanese culture, this is the perfect place to visit.
