Otake Limestone Cave 大岳鍾乳洞

586 Yozawa Akiruno-shi Tokyo

Explore an underground world at the foot of a sacred mountain

The Otake Limestone Cave is located at the foot of Mt. Mitake, revered as a holy peak since ancient times. Running for 300 meters beneath the mountain, it provides a subterranean adventure on the outskirts of Tokyo. A sacred Shinto rope adorns the entrance, letting you know you're stepping into another world. The cave's well-preserved rock formations include illuminated stretches of stalactites and stalagmites. Borrowing a spelunking helmet from the visitor center is a good idea for the tight crawls along the way. Accessible year-round, it stays cool in summer, making this Tokyo Natural Monument a fun escape from the city heat. Free Wi-Fi is available at the visitor center.
