In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), various facilities around Tokyo may change their operating days or hours. In addition, some events may be canceled or postponed. Please check official facility or event websites for the latest updates and information.
The Otake Limestone Cave is located at the foot of Mt. Mitake, revered as a holy peak since ancient times. Running for 300 meters beneath the mountain, it provides a subterranean adventure on the outskirts of Tokyo. A sacred Shinto rope adorns the entrance, letting you know you're stepping into another world. The cave's well-preserved rock formations include illuminated stretches of stalactites and stalagmites. Borrowing a spelunking helmet from the visitor center is a good idea for the tight crawls along the way. Accessible year-round, it stays cool in summer, making this Tokyo Natural Monument a fun escape from the city heat. Free Wi-Fi is available at the visitor center. Because the schedule is irregular, please contact the facility to confirm availability.
