Turtle talk
The Ogasawara Marine Center (also known as the "Turtle Center") has come a long way since its inception in 1982. Specializing in the research and conservation of wildlife, particularly humpback whales and Green sea turtles, the center raises sea turtles, protects their eggs, and releases the hatchlings after growing to a year old.
Throughout the year, the Marine Center both takes in and rehabilitates ill or injured sea turtles, as well as helps to raise young turtles from the eggs through to their release into the wild. If taking pictures of their adorable charges isn't enough, consider participating in a turtle class where you can interact with sea turtles (two-hour course, or three-hour course is available in summer). You can also sponsor turtles (applications accepted between April and June), and receive written updates (with pictures) on the turtle's growth from the staff for about a year.
