Akiruno City created custom-designed manhole covers featuring its mascot characters, "Morikko San-chan," at a festival. Morikko San-chan are a Tokyo salamander brother and sister that live in the rich natural environment of Akiruno Forest. The city also boasts historic, vigorous festivals held at Ninomiya Shrine, Shoichiiiwabashiri Shrine, and Akiru Shrine. They are called "Akiruno's Three Great Festivals" and attract many visitors.
