Andon (Japanese paper lamp) Making Workshop Miyako Andon

4-26-10 Higashi Nippori, Arakawa City, Tokyo

Andon—the perfect paper lantern

Make your own paper lantern, or andon in Japanese. You begin with a square wooden frame about 18-centimeters tall. After choosing the decorative Japanese washi paper to use in your design, you carefully apply it to the frame to complete your lantern. Note that transformers may be required to use the lantern outside of Japan.
