MUMMIES OF THE WORLD 特別展 ミイラ ~永遠の命を求めて

National Museum of Nature and Science, 7-20 Ueno Park, Taito City, Tokyo
2019-11-02 - 2020-02-24

A cultural and scientific look at mummies

Mummies are a great source of fascination to many people, based partly in a sense of amazement that such things actually exist. Modern research has unraveled the mysteries of how the physical forms of ancient people were preserved for eternity, as well as what kind of people were mummified, and why. This exhibition looks at cultural factors behind the creation of mummies from regions around the world, painting a complete, scientific picture of the phenomenon, while also looking at the people who have devoted their lives to mummy research.
