Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Ebisu Garden Place, 1-13-3 Mita, Meguro City, Tokyo
2019-11-12 - 2020-01-26

An introduction to trailblazing female photographer Eiko Yamazawa

Beginning in the 1930s, Eiko Yamazawa worked for over half a century as a photographer - a pioneer in Japanese women’s photographic art. With her famous series “What I Am Doing” at its center, this exhibition traces her progress as an artist through a display of a range of work and related materials, including her 1960s photography books and pre-war portraiture. Also on display are works by Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams and Cecil Beaton, as the event delves into the influence modern American photography of the 1920s onwards influenced Yamazawa and her work.
