from the cave イメージの洞窟 意識の源を探る

Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Ebisu Garden Place, 1-13-3 Mita, Meguro City, Tokyo
2019-10-1 - 2019-11-24

A wide range of artistic work, grouped together under the keyword, “cave”

This exhibition reexamines the way we perceive things, taking as a starting point photographic or film works which use caves as a motif or metaphor. From sketches by 19th century scientist and early photographic inventor John Herschel, to the latest works by renowned contemporary artists such as Lieko Shiga, Fiona Tan, and Gerhard Richter, the subject is approached from multiple directions. Using the concept of the cave as a way in, it reconsiders ideas of the present and of photography, history and society, the body and existence, exhibiting works that offer the opportunity to think about the images that link the present and the future.
