Elegant Enigmas: The Art of Edward Gorey エドワード・ゴーリーの優雅な秘密

Nerima Art Museum, 1-36-16 Nukui, Nerima City, Tokyo
2019-09-29 - 2019-11-24

An introduction to the worldview of picture-book author Edward Gorey

American picture book author Edward Gorey’s ironic and at times unsettling worldview, coupled with his delicate monochrome line drawing style, have made him popular with people the world over. With successive translations of his picture books being released in Japan in recent years, his popularity has grown here, too. This exhibition, originally developed after Gorey’s death, has toured the world, and has made its way around Japan since 2016. Through around 350 pieces of original art, documents and books, the exhibition introduces visitors to Gorey’s worldview.
